About the Breed

Tharparkar cattle are medium to large-sized animals with a straight back and well-developed muscles. They possess a capacious udder, making them efficient milk producers. Their docile temperament and strong build also make them suitable for draft purposes. Historically, they have been integral to the agrarian communities of the Thar region, serving both as a source of milk and as draft animals.

Milk Production

Under optimal conditions, Tharparkar cows can produce an average of 1980 kg of milk per lactation. However, in arid pastures, the yield may be around 1135 kg per lactation. Their milk is noted for its quality and nutritional value.

Common Problems

While Tharparkar cattle are hardy, they can face certain challenges:

Heat Stress

Despite their adaptability, prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to reduced feed intake, decreased milk yield, and reproductive issues.
